I CAN beWeave it!

Good Morning Europe, America and the rest of the world!! Let me say that for 27 years of my life, I've had natrual-no perm long hair...SO I did the unthinkable...I CUT it! I felt like it was just something I would always wonder about, so I just did it....SO of course I never wore wigs or weave. but NOW, lol, I love my hair short, but some days I feel a lil Kim Kardashianish so I decided to venture to wigs/half wigs etc. I have no idea about hair types, remy hair, indian hair...I'm just clueless! I felt a little self conscious at first but now I think it's a good way to switch up my look and give me a quick style. Never mind the fact that I look like two different people...but I promise it's still ME!! How do you feel about weave?

Doo Wop (That Thing), Lauryn!

Lauryn Hill debuted a choppy new do at L.A. Rising this past weekend, held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. (from Black Voices)

Can we say BLOW OUT!!  I love this look on her:   the hair, the make-up, the outfit!!  Gorgeous, honey, just gorgeous!!  I'm sure that voice of hers added a little umph to her appearance as well!

Is it just me, or do these pics remind you of her classic Doo Wop video?  *looking to download “the Miseducation” ret now!*

What do you think of L. Boogie’s new blow out!

CS Natural Beauty: Elaine

You all may remember how long my "natural hair" journey was.. it literally lasted about *snaps* that long.  However, I decided to get some insight from people that actually stayed with the process, so meet our first CS Natural Beauty: Elaine!
Natural for 8 years and counting, Elaine explains what inspired her to become natural, her hair routine, and if she'll ever go back to the "white stuff".

Name: Elaine
Age: 31
Location: NC

ComplexSimplicity:  What or who inspired you to go natural?
Elaine:  I always admired anyone that I saw with healthy, neat locs. After years of admiring other people's locs, I was inspired to begin my own loc journey.  I let go of other people's perception of beauty and embraced my own perception of beauty for myself.

CS:  Was it a spontaneous decision or a process?
Elaine:  Yes and no...Although, I debated for 6 or 7 years whether or not to grow locs, it was when I received my last relaxer in March 2002 that I "woke up" and said no more relaxers, I'm going to do what I want and grow locs!

CS:  How long have you been natural and/or had your locs?
Elaine:  I have been natural for 8 years.

CS:  What is your hair routine? How often do you do it?
Elaine:  I wash my locs with Taliah Waajid Stimulating Herbal Cleanser and Carol's Daughter Tui hair Shampoo every 2-weeks.  However, I do not twist my locs every 2-weeks. I believe if I twist my locs too often they will thin out, thus, decreasing the longevity/life of my locs. I moisten my scalp lightly with water and apply Nature's Blessings Hair Pomade directly to the scalp once a week since my scalp tends to soak up moisture.  I usually tighten my locs once or twice a month after my hair and scalp has been washed and oiled.  Since my scalp and hair are oiled with the Nature's Blessings after the wash, I simply spray my locs with water to keep my locs moist while I tighten my hair by re-twisting the new growth around the locs.  I usually air dry but if I need my locs dried quickly I sit under a hooded drier for 45 minutes to 1 hour and a half.

CS:  What's the best thing about being natural?
Elaine:  My locs represent a sense of freedom. Freedom from other people's perception of beauty and freedom from the pain that relaxed hair can bring, such as chemical burns and damaged hair that falls out or does not grow. I love the versatility of my locs and most importantly, I LOVE how BEAUTIFUL and CONFIDENT I feel with my natural hair!

CS:  Do you think you'll ever go back to a relaxer?
Elaine:  I can not say for sure whether or not I would go back to a relaxer. I think as women our looks are ever evolving, thus, changing your hair is a part of that evolution. One day I may decide that I want relaxed hair again but today I can say that I do NOT miss "the creamy crack." :-)

Hair Talk // Played Out Like an 8-Track

Okay, so the title was the first thing that came to my mind.. but it's funny! LOL!

Duh, already! I put a relaxer in my hair!!

Now get over it already!!

I just had to let that out! I am so over this "every black woman should and has to go natural" thing! It's annoying me. Yes, it may be true that natural hair is healthier hair, but it is a choice and "helluvalot" of maintenance!

Just the other day, I updated my profile picture on Facebook (as you see) and minutes later, I received a message from a FBF, "Hey, you permed your hair?" My first thought was "Uh, yeah, clearly I did" but I replied, "yeah, I did.." and gave her my whole spill on how I was getting tired of the same ole curly do I had. She then replied a simple "oh, ok." *rolls eyes* Well, damn. Can I get a looks nice or something?! Sheesh!

Being the person I am, I got over it, or rather, I decided to bring it to the blog. What bothers me most about my switch to the relaxer is that I've been ridiculed about it. I've been called a quitter, not committed, and shallow because of my hair!! Are you freakin serious! It's just hair and more importantly, it's, wait for it..... say it with me, MY hair!

While I love the natural look on others, a good example Solange, the transition just wasn't for me. I'm so annoyed with people trying to "recruit" me to the natural side again. But get this, I'm so thankful that God gave me the hair I have, because I can do whatever I want with it. I can wear it curly one day and straight the next! So, phooey to you, you "Natural Fo Life/Is Life" chicks!

Hair Mission: Going Natural

If I don't share this with you CS, my patience may just run out!

This past February, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to make the change and go natural. In my decision, I started off with micros.. to thicken my hair, because I have very fine hair. Unfortunately, those micros equated to a horrible experience in which half my hair broke off! Ultimately, having to chop it all off, I decided that this would be the perfect time to make my transition.

See how excited I was!

* long sigh* Since, the cut, I'm starting to become discouraged. Completely free of all chemicals now, I encounter natural bad hair days, boredom, and I even feel like my hair is ugly at times, well lets be honest, alot of times. Luckily, and thanking God, I always get compliments everyday on my hair which bring my spirits up.

Here's where my hair is now (it may actually be about 2 inches longer now):

I've been thinking about getting some kinky twist, but, I 'm just not sure! I'll be sure to keep you updated with the goings on of my hair! Anywho, this is my cry for help!! Send all your natural hair tips, product reviews, and words of encouragement my way! Thanks in advance!
